Wensho is a woreda (administrative district) in the Sidama Zone of Ethiopia, located in the Great Rift Valley. It is part of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) of Ethiopia.
Geography and Administration
Wensho is bordered on the southwest by Aleta Wendo, on the west by Dale, on the north by Shebedino, on the northeast by Gorche, and on the southeast by Bursa. The woreda was administratively separated from the Dale woreda. Following the regionalization of the Sidama Zone in 2020, Wensho became part of the newly established Sidama Region.
Demographics
According to the 2007 national census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia, Wensho had a total population of 89,662, of whom 45,562 were men and 44,100 were women. Urban dwellers accounted for 2,039 people, or approximately 2.27% of the total population.
In terms of religious affiliation, the majority of the population identified as Protestant, with 70.47% reporting that belief. Other religious groups included followers of traditional religions (12.17%), Muslims (8.84%), Catholics (1.93%), and adherents of Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity (1.42%).
