Wayward Kenting (Chinese: 我在墾丁*天氣晴, literal translation: “I’m in Kenting—It’s Sunny”) is a Taiwanese television drama series produced by Honto Productions and directed by Doze Niu. The 20‑episode series was first broadcast on Public Television Service (PTS) from 25 December 2007 to 16 February 2008, with each episode running approximately 45 minutes.
Production and setting
The series was filmed primarily on location in Hengchun, Taiwan, and portrays life in the coastal resort town of Kenting on the southern tip of the island. It was created by Chang Chao‑sheng and written by a team comprising Wang Shau‑di, Wen Yufang, Huang Chiung‑hui, Chang Ko‑hsin, and Ko Yen‑hsin. The opening theme “You Ni de Kuaile” (有你的快樂) and ending theme “Yinwei Ni Ai Wo” (因為你愛我) were performed by singer‑songwriter Joanna Wang.
Synopsis
Wayward Kenting follows three close friends—Zhong Hanwen (Eddie Peng), Liangliang (Lee Kang‑i), and Azuo (Lee Shiau‑shiang)—who grew up together in Kenting. The narrative centers on their efforts to protect the local environment while navigating personal relationships, youthful aspirations, and romantic entanglements. Key plotlines involve Hanwen’s online romance with writer Ding Xiaohui, Liangliang’s work at the Kenting National Park, and Azuo’s unrequited love for Liangliang. The series also introduces supporting characters such as illustrator Guo Shaonan (Ethan Juan) and bar owner Chu Yiyang (Doze Niu).
