Wang Huizhong (Chinese: 王辉忠; born February 1956) is a retired Chinese politician from Zhejiang province. He served as the Deputy Communist Party Secretary of Zhejiang from 2013 to 2016.
Early Life and Education
Wang was born in Yiwu, Zhejiang province. He joined the Chinese Communist Party in May 1978. He began his career working in a commune and later attended Zhejiang A & F University (formerly Zhejiang Agricultural University) starting in 1980, studying in a cadre training program in agronomy.
Political Career
After returning to Yiwu County, Wang held various local positions including commune Party secretary, district deputy secretary, and county Party committee secretary. In 1986, he was transferred to the Communist Youth League of Zhejiang province, becoming its secretary in 1993.
In October 1995, Wang was transferred to Zhoushan, where he served as deputy Party chief and later as mayor (1997–1999) and Party chief (1999–2003). In February 2003, he was appointed head of the Zhejiang Provincial Public Security Department, and by May 2003 he became a member of the provincial Party Standing Committee. He subsequently served as head of the provincial Political and Legal Affairs Department (2007–2010).
In 2010, Wang became Party chief of Ningbo, a major port city. During his tenure, in October 2012, large-scale protests erupted in Ningbo's Zhenhai District opposing a planned paraxylene (PX) chemical project, which was ultimately cancelled.
In April 2013, Wang was promoted to Deputy Party Secretary of Zhejiang, concurrently serving as head of the Provincial Political and Legal Affairs Commission. In January 2016, he became Vice-Chair of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress. He retired from his Party and government positions in January 2018 at age 61.
Wang was an alternate member of the 18th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (2012–2017). He also served as a member of the 13th National People's Congress (2018–2023) and sat on its Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee.
