Wall Hall is a historic country house and estate located in Aldenham, Hertfordshire, England. The existing house, largely rebuilt and extended in the late 19th century, stands on a site with a long history.
Originally built around 1775, the estate underwent significant architectural changes, culminating in its Victorian-era form. It is notable for its blend of Neo-Georgian and earlier architectural styles, and is a Grade II listed building, signifying its special architectural or historic interest.
Over its history, Wall Hall has served various purposes. For a period, it was a private residence, with notable owners including the Hon. Guy Charteris. In 1927, it was acquired by Hertfordshire County Council and transformed into a teacher training college. This educational function continued for many decades, and the institution eventually became a campus of Hatfield Polytechnic, which later evolved into the University of Hertfordshire. The Wall Hall campus housed faculties such as education and health sciences until its closure in 2003.
Following its sale by the university, the estate was redeveloped into a luxury residential complex. The historic main house was meticulously restored and converted into apartments, while new houses were constructed within the grounds, preserving much of the original landscape and architectural character.
