WHPX-TV is a television station licensed to New London, Connecticut, serving the Hartford–New Haven television market. It broadcasts a digital signal on virtual channel 26 and is an affiliate of Ion Television. The station is owned by Inyo Broadcast Holdings.
History The station first signed on the air on May 20, 1999, as an affiliate of Pax TV, which later rebranded as Ion Television. It was originally owned by Paxson Communications, which launched a network of stations across the United States. In 2005, Paxson Communications (later Ion Media Networks) began selling off some of its smaller market stations, but WHPX-TV remained part of its owned-and-operated group. Ion Media Networks was acquired by the E. W. Scripps Company in 2021. Due to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations regarding local television ownership, Scripps divested WHPX-TV, along with several other Ion stations, to Inyo Broadcast Holdings.
Programming As an Ion Television affiliate, WHPX-TV primarily carries programming from the Ion national schedule, which largely consists of syndicated drama series, reality programming, and movies.
Technical Information WHPX-TV operates on a physical channel 26. Its transmitter is located in Marlborough, Connecticut.
