Władysław Karaś

Władysław Karaś (born September 14, 1911, in Działoszyn, Poland – died May 21, 1942, in Auschwitz concentration camp) was a Polish sport shooter and a resistance fighter during World War II. He is best known for winning a bronze medal at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.

Sporting Career Karaś was a prominent figure in Polish shooting sports in the 1930s. His greatest athletic achievement came at the 1936 Summer Olympics held in Berlin, Germany. He competed in the 50 metre rifle, prone event, where he secured a bronze medal. He achieved a score of 296 points, tying with Willy Røgeberg of Norway. This medal was a notable success for Polish sports at the Games.

World War II and Death Following the German invasion of Poland in September 1939 and the subsequent outbreak of World War II, Władysław Karaś became actively involved in the Polish resistance movement. He participated in underground activities against the Nazi occupation forces. His involvement led to his arrest by the Gestapo. He was then sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp, a German Nazi extermination camp. Władysław Karaś was executed in Auschwitz on May 21, 1942, at the age of 30.
