Virgin Media Two

Virgin Media Two is an Irish free-to-air television channel owned by Virgin Media Television, a division of Virgin Media Ireland, which is ultimately owned by Liberty Global. It is a general entertainment channel that primarily broadcasts acquired programming, reality television, documentaries, and some live sports coverage.

History The channel originally launched on 5 January 2009 as 3e, serving as a complementary channel to TV3 (now Virgin Media One). Its initial programming largely consisted of repeats from TV3's schedule, extended news broadcasts, and some acquired content. Over time, it began to develop its own distinct schedule, focusing more on youth-oriented entertainment and reality shows, as well as providing an overflow channel for sports and other live events that could not be accommodated on the main channel.

On 30 August 2018, following the acquisition of TV3 Group by Virgin Media Ireland, 3e was rebranded as Virgin Media Two, as part of a larger rebranding effort that saw TV3 become Virgin Media One and be3 become Virgin Media Three. This rebrand aimed to align the channels more closely with the Virgin Media brand and its broader telecommunications services.

Programming Virgin Media Two's programming slate is diverse, though it often focuses on specific genres. It frequently airs:

  • Reality Television: Popular reality shows, often acquired from international distributors.
  • Documentaries: A range of factual programming, including lifestyle and crime documentaries.
  • Entertainment: Acquired dramas, comedies, and general entertainment shows.
  • Sports: Live sports coverage, often acting as an overflow channel for major events or showing secondary matches/fixtures from competitions for which Virgin Media Television holds broadcast rights (e.g., UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League).
  • News: While not a primary news channel, it occasionally carries news updates or extended news programming during significant events, sometimes simulcasting from Virgin Media One.

The channel aims to offer a different viewing experience compared to its sister channel, Virgin Media One, often targeting a younger demographic or those interested in more contemporary entertainment and reality formats.

Availability Virgin Media Two is available free-to-air on Saorview, Ireland's national digital terrestrial television service. It is also carried on Virgin Media Ireland's own cable television platform, Sky Ireland, and other pay-TV providers throughout the Republic of Ireland.
