Vincenzo Grossi

Vincenzo Grossi (31 December 1860 – 23 October 1954) was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and the founder of the religious institute known as the Daughters of the Passion of Jesus (Figlie della Passione di Gesù). Born in Canneto sull’Oglio, in the province of Brescia, Italy, Grossi was ordained to the priesthood on 22 June 1885. He served in various pastoral roles, notably as a parish priest in the town of Rogno, where he became concerned with the spiritual and material welfare of the poor and marginalized.

In 1893 Grossi founded the Daughters of the Passion of Jesus, a congregation dedicated to the promotion of devotion to the Passion of Christ and to charitable works, particularly in education and the care of the sick. He served as the first superior of the institute, guiding its growth throughout northern Italy.

The process for his canonization began in the mid‑20th century. He was declared Venerable by Pope Paul VI on 27 November 1975, signifying recognition of his heroic virtues. Grossi was beatified on 22 September 1993 by Pope John Paul II. Following the verification of a miracle attributed to his intercession, he was canonized as a saint of the Roman Catholic Church on 31 October 2000, also by Pope John Paul II.

Grossi’s legacy is preserved through the ongoing activities of the Daughters of the Passion of Jesus, which continue to operate schools, health‑care facilities, and social service programs in several countries. His feast day is celebrated on 23 October, the anniversary of his death.
