Vincent “Vince” Welch (born August 4, 1964) is an American radio and television sportscaster best known for his work with Fox Sports covering NASCAR events. He has served as a play‑by‑play commentator for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, a pit reporter for Fox’s NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series broadcasts, and a commentator for Fox College Hoops. As of 2023, he works as a spotter for NASCAR Productions, primarily assisting his son, Dillon Welch, a pit reporter for NBC.
Early life and education
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Welch graduated from Ball State University in 1987 with a degree in telecommunications.
Broadcasting career
- Radio beginnings (1987‑1990) – Welch began his career at WKBV in Richmond, Indiana, where he performed play‑by‑play commentary for local high‑school sports.
- Transition to television (1990‑1995) – He took a part‑time position with Indianapolis‑based WISH‑TV, eventually moving to WNDY‑TV where he was appointed sports chief in 1995.
- Radio sports director (1998‑2000s) – In 1998 Welch became sports director for Indianapolis radio station WIBC, succeeding Bob Lamey.
