Vinagarra is a genus of ray-finned fish in the family Cyprinidae (minnows or carps), subfamily Labeoninae. The genus is endemic to freshwater habitats in northern Vietnam and adjacent parts of southern China.
Taxonomy and Description
The genus Vinagarra was described by Nguyen & Bui in 2009. It belongs to the order Cypriniformes, class Actinopterygii. The genus is part of the subfamily Labeoninae within the family Cyprinidae.
Species
There are currently four recognized species in the genus Vinagarra:
- Vinagarra elongata — Nguyen & Bui, 2010. Found in Tam Duong district, Lai Chau Province, northern Vietnam. Maximum length: 6.9 cm SL.
- Vinagarra findolabium — (Li, Zhou & Fu, 2008). Originally described as Garra findolabium. Found in the Red River basin, Yunnan Province, China. Maximum length: 7.1 cm SL.
- Vinagarra laichowensis — (Nguyen & Doan, 1969). Originally described as Garra laichowensis (also placed in Placocheilus by some authors). Found in Lai Chau Province, Vietnam. Maximum length: 4.1 cm.
- Vinagarra tamduongensis — Nguyen & Bui, 2010. Found in Lai Chau Province, Vietnam. Maximum length: 7.5 cm SL.
Distribution and Habitat
Species of Vinagarra are freshwater fish distributed in Asia, specifically in northern Vietnam (Lai Chau Province, Tam Duong district) and southern China (Yunnan Province, Red River basin). They inhabit freshwater streams and rivers.
