Ville Haapasalo (born 28 August 1972) is a Finnish actor and television presenter who has achieved significant recognition in Russia. Born in Helsinki, Finland, Haapasalo studied acting at the Theatre Academy of Finland before moving to Moscow in the mid‑1990s to pursue a career in Russian cinema and television.
His breakthrough role came with the 2002 Russian‑Finnish co‑production The Cuckoo (original title: Kukushka), in which he played the Finnish soldier Aarne Levonen. The film received critical acclaim and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Following this success, Haapasalo appeared in numerous Russian films, television series, and reality‑show formats, including Kiss Me, Not Dead (Uslijoo зоройпеч), the Russian version of Dancing with the Stars, and the travel program Vanya Haapasalo's Russian Adventure. He has also performed stage work in both Finland and Russia.
In addition to his acting career, Haapasalo is known for his fluency in the Russian language and for serving as a cultural bridge between Finnish and Russian media. He has been involved in various charitable initiatives and has occasionally worked as a voice actor for Russian dubs of international films.
