Victor Karlsson (born August 21, 2002) is a Swedish professional ice hockey defenceman. He is known for his career predominantly within the Swedish hockey system, including appearances in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) and HockeyAllsvenskan, the top two tiers of professional ice hockey in Sweden.
Early Life and Junior Career Karlsson began his ice hockey development in Sweden, progressing through various junior ranks. He spent a significant portion of his youth career with HV71, one of Sweden's prominent hockey clubs, where he played for their U16, J18, and J20 teams. His performance at the junior level marked him as a promising defensive prospect.
Professional Career Karlsson made his professional debut with HV71 in the SHL during the 2020–21 season. While his initial SHL appearances were limited, he gained valuable experience at the highest level of Swedish hockey. To further his development and playing time, he also spent time on loan with teams in lower divisions, such as Hockeyettan (the third tier) with Vimmerby HC.
Following his time with HV71, Karlsson moved on to play in HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden's second-highest league, where he established himself as a regular defenceman. He has played for several clubs in HockeyAllsvenskan, including Mora IK, Östersunds IK, and Brynäs IF. In these leagues, he has continued to refine his defensive play and contribute to his teams from the blueline.
Playing Style Karlsson is primarily known as a steady, reliable defenceman. He is often characterized by his strong defensive awareness, responsible play in his own zone, and ability to make good passes out of the defensive end. While not typically a high-scoring defenceman, he contributes to puck movement and maintaining defensive integrity.
