Veronika Bellmann (born June 17, 1960, in Karl-Marx-Stadt, now Chemnitz) is a German politician who was a member of the Bundestag, the German federal parliament, from 2005 to 2017. She represented the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU).
Early Life and Education Veronika Bellmann grew up in Chemnitz (then Karl-Marx-Stadt) in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). After completing her Abitur in 1978, she studied at the Pädagogische Hochschule "Dr. Theodor Neubauer" in Erfurt, specializing in German language and literature and art history. She graduated in 1982 with a diploma in teaching. From 1982 to 1990, she worked as a teacher at various schools.
Political Career Bellmann became politically active during the period of the Peaceful Revolution in East Germany.
- 1990-2005: She served as a member of the Chemnitz city council, holding various positions, including spokesperson for cultural policy.
- 2005-2017: Bellmann was elected to the Bundestag in 2005, representing the constituency of Chemnitz. She was re-elected in 2009 and 2013. In the Bundestag, she was particularly active in the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment, and the Committee on Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. Her political focus included education policy, family policy, and issues related to the former East Germany.
