Velykyi Bereznyi Raion () was an administrative district (raion) of Zakarpattia Oblast in western Ukraine.
Geography
- Location: Situated in the northeastern part of Zakarpattia Oblast, bordering the Carpathian Mountains and adjacent to the Slovakian border.

History
- Establishment: The raion was created on 7 January 1947 as part of the post‑World War II territorial organization of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
- Soviet Period: Functioned as a typical raion within the Soviet administrative framework, overseeing local councils, schools, and collective farms.
Demographics
- Population: According to the 2001 Ukrainian Census, the raion had a population of roughly 33,000 inhabitants. Later estimates before its dissolution placed the population near 30,000.
Economy and Infrastructure
- The economy was primarily based on agriculture, forestry, and small‑scale manufacturing.
- Road connections linked the raion to Uzhhorod, the oblast capital, and to cross‑border routes toward Slovakia.
Administrative Reform and Abolition
- As part of Ukraine’s 2020 administrative reform, Velykyi Bereznyi Raion was abolished on 18 July 2020.
- Its territory was merged into the newly expanded Uzhhorod Raion.
Legacy
- The former raion’s jurisdiction now corresponds to several hromadas (amalgamated territorial communities) within Uzhhorod Raion, which continue local governance functions.
