Location and Administration

Velyka Buda is located in the southwestern part of Ukraine, within the [[Chernivtsi Oblast]]. Administratively, it is part of the [[Dnistrovskyi Raion]] (district) and belongs to the Klishkivtsi rural hromada.

History

The village of Velyka Buda was first mentioned in historical records in the year 1774.

Population

According to the [[2001 Ukrainian census]], the population of Velyka Buda was 663 people.

Etymology

The name "Velyka Buda" translates from Ukrainian as "Great Buda" or "Big Buda." The term "Velyka" (Велика) means "Great" or "Big," while "Buda" (Буда) is a historical term that often referred to a temporary dwelling, a booth, or a settlement engaged in the production of potash, tar, or other forest-related industries, particularly in forested regions.
