Vasilevo, North Macedonia

Vasilevo is a village and the administrative seat of the Vasilevo Municipality, located in the southeastern region of North Macedonia. It is situated in the Strumica Valley, approximately 10 kilometers north of the city of Strumica.

As a municipal center, Vasilevo oversees several surrounding settlements. The municipality was established as a distinct administrative unit following the territorial divisions of North Macedonia. The village serves as the hub for local government services, primary education, and basic communal infrastructure for the district.

Demographically, Vasilevo is a multi-ethnic settlement. According to the 2002 national census, the population consisted primarily of ethnic Macedonians and a significant ethnic Turkish minority. The 2021 census data indicates that this ethnic composition persists within the municipality, reflecting the broader demographic trends of the southeastern region.

The economy of Vasilevo is predominantly based on agriculture. Due to its location in the fertile Strumica Valley and its Mediterranean-transitional climate, the area is suitable for the production of various crops. Major agricultural outputs include tobacco, garden vegetables (notably peppers and tomatoes), and cereals. A portion of the population is also engaged in small-scale commerce and services related to its status as a municipal seat.

Geographically, the settlement is positioned near the main road connecting Strumica with Radoviš and Štip, facilitating transport and trade within the region. The village is characterized by a mix of traditional and modern rural architecture, typical of the lowland settlements in the country.
