Varaz-Tiridates I (also known as Varaz Trdat) was a Mihranid king of Caucasian Albania, reigning from approximately 670/680 to 705 CE.
Reign and Background
Varaz-Tiridates I was a member of the Mihranid dynasty, a house of Iranian origin that ruled Caucasian Albania (known to its inhabitants as Aghuania). He was the son of Varaz Peroz and succeeded his uncle Javanshir to the throne. His reign is generally dated from 670 to 705, with his coronation taking place around 680.
Imprisonment in Constantinople
From 694 until 699, Varaz-Tiridates I was held as a prisoner in Constantinople. During his absence, his queen, Sparama, and a regent prince named Shero served as regents. However, they became involved in internal conflict. Upon Varaz-Tiridates's return to the throne, Shero was imprisoned by Arab forces.
Death and Succession
After his death in 705, the kingdom of Caucasian Albania was abolished. The Mihranid dynasty continued but only as princes of Gardman. He was buried in Gardman castle.

Varaz-Tiridates I was married to Queen Sparama. His known children include Gagik (who succeeded him), Vardan II, and Stepannos I.
Religion
He adhered to the Church of Caucasian Albania.
