Definition
Vadim Rabinovich is a Ukrainian businessman and former politician who served as a member of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) and held diplomatic responsibilities for Ukraine at the United Nations.
Overview
Born on 20 July 1953 in Chernivtsi, then part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, Rabinovich built a career in private enterprise before entering politics. He amassed interests in sectors such as energy, banking, and media, and has been described in various media reports as an oligarch.
Rabinovich was elected to the Verkhovna Rada in the 2012 parliamentary elections on the party list of the Party of Regions. During his term, he served on several parliamentary committees, including those dealing with foreign affairs and economic policy. In 2013, he was appointed as Ukraine’s permanent representative to the United Nations General Assembly, a post he held until 2014.
Following the 2014 Ukrainian revolution and the subsequent collapse of the Party of Regions, Rabinovich founded and led the political party “For the Future” (Ukrainian: «За майбутнє»). The party has participated in regional and national elections, though it has not achieved representation in the national parliament since 2014.
Rabinovich’s public profile has been marked by a number of controversies. He has faced accusations of involvement in money‑laundering schemes and of using his political influence to benefit his business holdings; however, no criminal convictions have been recorded as of the latest publicly available sources. He remains an active figure in Ukrainian business circles and occasionally comments on foreign‑policy matters in the Ukrainian press.
