Vadim Vitalyevich Karpov (Russian: Вадим Витальевич Карпов; born 14 July 2002) is a Russian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back. He is primarily known for his time at Russian Premier League club CSKA Moscow and for being one of the youngest players to debut in the Russian top-flight and UEFA European competitions.
Early Life and Youth Career
Karpov was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. He began his football journey in the youth academy of Smena St. Petersburg before joining the esteemed youth setup of CSKA Moscow. He quickly progressed through the ranks at CSKA, showing significant promise as a central defender.
Club Career
Karpov made his professional debut for CSKA Moscow on 19 September 2019, at the age of 17, in a UEFA Europa League group stage match against PFC Ludogorets Razgrad. His Russian Premier League debut followed shortly thereafter, on 22 September 2019, against FC Krasnodar. This made him one of the youngest players in CSKA Moscow's history to feature in both domestic and European senior competitions.
During his initial seasons, Karpov continued to integrate into the first team, gaining valuable experience through appearances in the league, domestic cups, and European fixtures. He quickly garnered attention for his mature defensive performances, physical presence, and composure beyond his years.
