Vadim Karpov

Vadim Vitalyevich Karpov (Russian: Вадим Витальевич Карпов; born 14 July 2002) is a Russian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back. He is primarily known for his time at Russian Premier League club CSKA Moscow and for being one of the youngest players to debut in the Russian top-flight and UEFA European competitions.

Early Life and Youth Career

Karpov was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. He began his football journey in the youth academy of Smena St. Petersburg before joining the esteemed youth setup of CSKA Moscow. He quickly progressed through the ranks at CSKA, showing significant promise as a central defender.

Club Career

Karpov made his professional debut for CSKA Moscow on 19 September 2019, at the age of 17, in a UEFA Europa League group stage match against PFC Ludogorets Razgrad. His Russian Premier League debut followed shortly thereafter, on 22 September 2019, against FC Krasnodar. This made him one of the youngest players in CSKA Moscow's history to feature in both domestic and European senior competitions.

During his initial seasons, Karpov continued to integrate into the first team, gaining valuable experience through appearances in the league, domestic cups, and European fixtures. He quickly garnered attention for his mature defensive performances, physical presence, and composure beyond his years. While primarily a part of the CSKA Moscow squad, he has also experienced loan spells to further his development and gain consistent playing time.

International Career

Karpov has represented Russia at various youth international levels. He has been a regular fixture for Russia's U17, U18, U19, and U21 national teams, participating in qualifiers and friendly matches. As of his current career stage, he has not yet made an appearance for the senior Russian national team but is considered a future prospect for selection.

Playing Style

Karpov is known for his strong defensive attributes. He is a physically imposing centre-back with excellent aerial ability, often winning headers in both defensive and offensive set-piece situations.
