Võnnu, Lääne County

Võnnu (German: Wenden) is a village situated in Haapsalu municipality, Lääne County, in western Estonia. The settlement lies at the geographic coordinates 58°54′N 23°41′E.

Geography
Võnnu is located on the northern coast of the Baltic Sea, within the historic region of Lääne County. The village is part of the administrative unit of Haapsalu, an urban municipality that encompasses both the town of Haapsalu and surrounding rural settlements.

Administrative history
Prior to the administrative reform of local governments in Estonia that took effect on 1 January 2017, Võnnu was part of Ridala Parish. The reform merged Ridala Parish into the expanded Haapsalu municipality, thereby changing the village’s municipal affiliation while it remained within Lääne County.

Võnnu is the birthplace of the Estonian composer Cyrillus Kreek (1889 – 1962), known for his work in folk‑song collection and choral composition.
