Uren (Russian: Уре́нь) is a town and the administrative center of Urensky District in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia. It is located on the right bank of the Usta River (part of the Volga basin), approximately 183 kilometers (114 miles) northeast of Nizhny Novgorod, the administrative center of the oblast.
History
The settlement was first mentioned in historical records in 1719. It was granted urban-type settlement status in 1959 and was officially elevated to town status in 1973.
Geography and Demographics
Uren is situated in the northern part of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast at coordinates 57°27′N 45°47′E, at an elevation of approximately 100 meters (330 feet) above sea level. According to the 2010 census, the town had a population of 12,304 residents. More recent estimates (2021) place the population at approximately 12,450.
Administrative Status
Within the framework of administrative divisions, Uren serves as the administrative center of Urensky District. Administratively, it is incorporated as the town of district significance of Uren, which also includes two rural localities. Municipally, it is incorporated as Uren Urban Settlement within Urensky Municipal District.
Transportation
The town has a railway station through which the Trans-Siberian Railway passes. Uren is also located on Road R159, providing road connections to the region.

Uren is a small town characterized by its location along the Usta River, surrounded by green landscapes. It features a central area with squares and parks, residential neighborhoods, schools, and shops. The town's coat of arms serves as its official municipal symbol.
