Uptown (Machinations album)

Uptown is the debut studio album by Australian synth-pop band Machinations. It was released in 1983 on White Label Records and Mushroom Records. The album spawned several singles, including "Pressure Sway," a charting single in Australia. Uptown showcases the band's early synth-driven sound, characterized by layered synthesizers, prominent basslines, and vocalist Fred Loneragan's distinctive delivery. The album explored themes of urban life, social commentary, and relationships through a new wave lens. While not a massive commercial success upon release, Uptown is considered a foundational album in Australian electronic music and helped to establish Machinations as a significant act in the scene. The album has been reissued on CD, further cementing its legacy. The songs were mainly written by Tim Powles and Fred Loneragan.
