University station is a railway station on the East Rail Line of Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system. Located in Ma Liu Shui, Sha Tin District, New Territories, it serves primarily as a key transport hub for students, faculty, and staff of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), which is directly accessible from the station.
The station was opened on 15 August 1956, when the line was known as the KCR British Section. It was initially a small halt but was significantly expanded and modernized over the decades to accommodate the growing population of CUHK and the surrounding areas.
University station features two ground-level side platforms, Platforms 1 and 2, which are designated for trains heading towards Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau and Hung Hom/Admiralty, respectively. It is one of the few MTR stations not built underground or elevated on a viaduct, situated instead at ground level along the Tolo Harbour coastline.
The station has several exits, strategically placed to provide convenient access to different parts of the university campus and nearby areas. Exit B is the main entrance/exit for The Chinese University of Hong Kong, leading directly to the university's main entrance and bus termini. Other exits provide access to nearby residential developments and the Tolo Harbour cycling track. Its design and location make it an integral part of the daily commute for thousands associated with CUHK, as well as serving local residents and visitors to the Tolo Harbour area.
