The United States Post Office and Courthouse–Globe Main is a historic federal building located at 215 West Mescal Street in Globe, Arizona. Constructed in the mid‑1930s, the structure originally housed both United States Postal Service operations and federal courtrooms.
Architecture and Design
The building was designed under the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department, headed by James A. Wetmore. It is an example of the Classical Revival style commonly employed for federal facilities of the era, featuring a symmetrical façade, limestone cladding, a raised central entrance with a classical entablature, and fluted pilasters. The interior includes original marble finishes and wood paneling typical of New Deal‑era public architecture.
Historical Use
Upon completion, the structure served simultaneously as Globe’s main post office and as a United States district courthouse. The dual‑function design reflected a federal policy of consolidating services in smaller communities. The courthouse accommodated United States District Court proceedings for the District of Arizona until the mid‑20th century, after which judicial functions were relocated to larger facilities in Phoenix and Tucson. The United States Postal Service continues to operate a post office in the building.

The United States Post Office and Courthouse–Globe Main was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 22 1985. The listing recognizes the building’s architectural significance and its role in the civic development of Globe, a mining town that experienced rapid growth in the early 20th century.
