Union Hospital (Hong Kong)

Union Hospital (Chinese: 仁安醫院; UH) is a for-profit private hospital located at 18 Fu Kin Street, Tai Wai, Sha Tin, New Territories, Hong Kong. It was established on 22 June 1994 and was developed by Henderson Land Development Co. Ltd. It is recognized as the first private general hospital in the eastern New Territories of Hong Kong.

History and Development

The construction of the hospital was carried out in two phases. Phase one comprised a multi-storey main hospital building with four ward floors accommodating 200 beds, a three-storey Medical Centre, a 24-storey staff quarters, and an underground car park with more than 170 spaces. The total gross floor area constructed in this phase was 27,756 square metres, with expenditures exceeding HK$400 million.

The phase two extension project was completed in 2006, with construction costs exceeding HK$210 million. This involved adding four new floors atop the existing building, providing an additional 107 beds and new facilities, including the Minimally Invasive Centre, Day Therapy Centre, a Surgical Ward, and a Private Ward. As of the hospital's expansion, it operates approximately 410 beds.

Accreditation and Services

Union Hospital is surveyed and accredited by QHA Trent Accreditation of the United Kingdom, a major international healthcare accreditation group. The hospital provides a comprehensive range of medical services, including family medicine, specialist outpatient clinics, surgery, medical imaging, inpatient hospital care, and the first private 24-hour Emergency Medicine Centre in Hong Kong.

In 2020, Union Hospital invested HKD 200 million in the Union Oncology Centre to provide treatment equipment and holistic nursing care for cancer patients.

The hospital is accessible via a free shuttle bus to and from Tai Wai MTR station, as well as several green minibus routes (63S, 68K, 68S, 803, 804, and 812) and bus routes (46S, 46X, 80, 80A, 80P, 81S, 82K, 85B, 87B, 88K, 281M, 286X, 985, 985B, and N281).
