Una, Bahia

Una is a municipality located in the southern part of the state of Bahia, in the Northeast Region of Brazil. It is situated along the Atlantic coast and is known for its coastal ecosystems, including mangroves, estuaries, and restinga vegetation. The town has a relatively small population and economy primarily based on fishing, agriculture, and increasingly ecotourism due to its proximity to natural attractions such as beaches and the UNESCO-recognized Discovery Coast (Costa do Descobrimento).

The region is biologically significant, lying within the Atlantic Forest biome, a biodiversity hotspot. Conservation units such as the Una Biological Reserve are located nearby, established to protect endangered species including the golden-headed lion tamarin (Leontopithecus chrysomelas).

The municipality's history is tied to colonial Brazil, with roots in the sugarcane and coconut production industries. It remains a minor but culturally distinctive locality within Bahia, reflecting the broader Afro-Brazilian cultural influences prevalent in the region.

Administratively, Una belongs to the microregion of Ilhéus-Itabuna and is accessible by road via the BR-101 highway.
