UTC Derby Pride Park (formerly Derby Manufacturing UTC) is a 13–19 mixed university technical college located at Locomotive Way, Pride Park, Derby, Derbyshire, England. It was established in September 2015 and is part of the Sheffield UTC Academy Trust. The college specialises in engineering and health and life sciences.
History
The institution was originally founded as Derby Manufacturing UTC in September 2015, serving students aged 14–19 with a specialism in engineering and manufacturing. It was supported by Derby City Council and established as a partnership between Derby College, the University of Derby, Rolls-Royce, Bombardier, and Toyota. Following an Ofsted inspection in 2017, the college was rated 'inadequate' and placed into special measures. In December 2019, it was renamed UTC Derby Pride Park and joined the Sheffield UTC Academy Trust. The entry age was lowered to 13, and a second specialism in life sciences was added in September 2020. In December 2023, Ofsted graded the college as 'Good' overall, with 'Outstanding' for behaviours and attitudes.
Admissions and Curriculum
Students may join the college at age 13 (Year 9) or at age 16 (Year 12). The curriculum combines GCSEs and A-Levels with employer-led technical projects. The college has a capacity of 600 students; enrolment was recorded as 82 in 2020.
Governance and Leadership
The college is part of the Sheffield UTC Academy Trust, which also operates UTCs in Sheffield. The Executive Principal is Nick Crew, and the Principal is Richie Wheatcroft. The local authority is Derby City Council.
