USS Vixen (1803)

The USS Vixen was a schooner in the United States Navy, commissioned in 1803. She played an active role in the First Barbary War, primarily serving in the Mediterranean squadron under Commodore Edward Preble. The Vixen was involved in several key engagements and blockade duties against Tripoli.

Notable events in Vixen's service include her participation in the capture of the Tripolitan ketch Mastico in December 1803, which was then renamed USS Intrepid and later used in the daring raid to destroy the USS Philadelphia. The Vixen also took part in the bombardment of Tripoli in 1804.

In 1804, while under the command of Lieutenant Charles Stewart, the Vixen was captured by the Tripolitan warship El Rais Mahomed Rais. She was recaptured a short time later by the USS John Adams.

The Vixen continued to serve in the Mediterranean until the conclusion of the First Barbary War. Following the peace treaty, she returned to the United States and was sold in 1806.
