Tukuche Peak is a glaciated mountain in the Nepalese Himalayas. The summit rises to an elevation of 6,920 m (22,703 ft) above sea level, with a topographic prominence of 1,050 m (3,445 ft). It is situated in Gandaki Province, straddling the districts of Mustang and Myagdi, approximately 8.4 km (5.2 mi) northeast of Dhaulagiri and 70 km (43 mi) northwest of Pokhara. The peak lies within the Dhaulagiri mountain range, a subrange of the greater Himalayas, and its slopes drain into the Gandaki River, a tributary of the Ganges.

- Isolation: 6.83 km (4.24 mi) from the nearest higher summit.
- The east face exhibits dramatic relief, rising 1,550 m (5,085 ft) within a horizontal distance of one kilometre, while the summit towers 4,370 m (14,337 ft) above the Gandaki River in less than nine kilometres.
Climbing History
- First ascent: 10 May 1969, achieved by a Swiss expedition comprising Georges Hartmann, Aloïs Strickler, and Sherpa Sonam Girmi. A second summit party from the same expedition, Alfred Hitz and Ruedi Homberger, reached the top three days later.
- Easiest route: Northwest Ridge, classified as a moderate technical climb relative to other six‑thousand‑metre peaks in the region.
Climate
According to the Köppen climate classification, Tukuche Peak falls within a tundra climate zone, characterized by cold, snowy winters and cool summers. Weather patterns are heavily influenced by orographic lift, as moist air masses from the Bay of Bengal are forced upward by the Himalayas, producing substantial precipitation in the form of rain and snow. The monsoon season spans mid‑June through early‑August. Optimal climbing conditions generally occur in April, May, September, and October.
Access and Significance
The mountain’s remote location and challenging terrain limit the frequency of climbing expeditions, making it a relatively lesser‑known objective compared with more prominent Himalayan peaks. Nonetheless, its striking topographic relief and proximity to major ranges such as Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna massif render it a notable feature of Nepal’s high‑altitude geography.
