Trypogeus barclayi is a species of beetle in the longhorn beetle family (Cerambycidae), subfamily Dorcasominae. It was described by the entomologist Eduard Vives in 2007.
Taxonomy
The species belongs to the genus Trypogeus within the family Cerambycidae. Its binomial name is Trypogeus barclayi Vives, 2007.
Description
Trypogeus barclayi measures approximately 9–11 mm in length, making it the smallest member of its genus. It is characterized by a testaceous (brownish-yellow) body coloration with dark markings on the head, pronotum, apex of the elytra, base of the antennae, and tibiae. It has short, robust legs and coarsely textured body surfaces.
Distribution
This species is found on the island of Borneo, with recorded occurrences in Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The type locality is Sabah, Malaysia (Borneo). The holotype is deposited in the Natural History Museum, London.
Similar Species
Trypogeus barclayi is most similar to Trypogeus javanicus Aurivillius, from which it can be distinguished by differences in coloration of the elytra and the morphology of the pronotum.
