Tristan Sailor (born 1 July 1998) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who plays as a fullback, wing, or five-eighth for the Brisbane Broncos in the National Rugby League (NRL). He is the son of rugby league and rugby union legend Wendell Sailor.
Early Life and Family
Sailor was born in Wollongong, New South Wales. He is the son of dual-international rugby league and rugby union player Wendell Sailor and his wife Tara. Growing up, he played junior rugby league for the Helensburgh Tigers and the Corrimal Cougars. He attended St. Gregory's College, Campbelltown, where he played rugby league for the school.
Playing Career
St. George Illawarra Dragons
Sailor joined the St. George Illawarra Dragons system, playing in their junior representative teams. He played for the Dragons' National Youth Competition (NYC) team in 2017. In 2019, he made his NRL debut for the Dragons in Round 22 against the Gold Coast Titans, scoring a try in his first game. He primarily played as a utility back, covering fullback, wing, and five-eighth.
Legal Issues and Hiatus (2020-2021)
In October 2020, Sailor was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault in company. He subsequently had his contract with the Dragons terminated. After a lengthy legal process, the charges against him were dropped in April 2021. During this period, Sailor was out of the professional rugby league system.
Brisbane Broncos
Following the resolution of his legal matters, Sailor signed with the Brisbane Broncos in 2022, initially joining their Queensland Cup feeder club, the Souths Logan Magpies. His strong performances earned him a contract with the Broncos' NRL squad. He made his return to the NRL in 2023 for the Broncos, featuring in several games and demonstrating his versatility across the backline. He continues to be a part of the Broncos' squad, providing depth and competition for starting positions.
Representative Career
Sailor has represented the New South Wales Under 16s and Under 18s teams.
