Trevor Reader

Trevor Alan John Reader (born 3 August 1946) is a retired Anglican priest who served as Archdeacon of Portsdown in the Diocese of Portsmouth from 2006 until 2013.

Early life and education

Born in Pembrokeshire, Wales, Reader attended Portsmouth Polytechnic, where he worked as a research assistant and later as a lecturer until 1986. He subsequently studied for ordination at Salisbury and Wells Theological College.

Ordained ministry

  • Assistant Curate, St Mary, Alverstoke (1986–1989)
  • Priest in charge, St Mary, Hook‑with‑Warsash (1989–1998)
  • Priest in charge, Holy Trinity, Blendworth (including St Michael and All Angels, Chalton, and St Hubert, Idsworth) and Diocesan Director of Non‑Stipendiary Ministry (until 2003)

In 2006, Reader was appointed Archdeacon of Portsdown, a senior administrative post within the Diocese of Portsmouth. He held this position until his retirement in 2013.

Later life

Following retirement from active ministry, Reader has remained a figure of note within the Anglican community, though he no longer holds a formal clerical office.
