Biography
Tornike Sanikidze was born in Georgia. He developed an early interest and talent in chess, progressing through the ranks of junior chess before achieving international recognition.
Chess Career
Sanikidze earned the title of International Master (IM) in 2005. His steady progress culminated in him being awarded the prestigious Grandmaster (GM) title by FIDE in 2008, at the age of 19.
Throughout his career, Sanikidze has participated in and achieved success in numerous international chess tournaments:
- 2006: He won the Open Internacional Sant Martà held in Barcelona, Spain.
- 2007: Sanikidze was a winner at the Istanbul Open. In the same year, he tied for 1st-3rd place with Ivan Cheparinov and Vadim Malakhatko in the International Chess Festival "A" in Albena, Bulgaria.
- Team Representation: He has represented Georgia in various team events, including the European Team Chess Championship, contributing to his national team's efforts.
Sanikidze reached his peak FIDE rating of 2575 in April 2011, establishing himself as one of Georgia's leading chess players during that period. His playing style is generally characterized by solid strategic understanding combined with tactical sharpness.
