Tornike Rizhvadze

Tornike Rizhvadze (Georgian: თორნიკე რიჟვაძე; born January 29, 1989) is a Georgian politician who currently serves as the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. He assumed this office on July 21, 2018.

Early Life and Education

Tornike Rizhvadze was born in Batumi, then part of the Georgian SSR. He is the son of David Rizhvadze, who served as the Mayor of Batumi in the 1990s.

Rizhvadze pursued higher education in law, graduating from Tbilisi State University. He furthered his studies by obtaining a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Grenoble Ecole de Management (France) and ESM Tbilisi, as well as a Master's degree in Law from Bocconi University (Italy).

Career

Prior to his appointment as Chairman of the Government of Adjara, Rizhvadze held various positions in both the public and private sectors. His career experience includes:

  • Working at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
  • Serving as a member of the Board of Directors at the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation.
  • Holding a position at the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC).
  • Engaging in the private legal sector.

He is a prominent member of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia political party.

Chairman of the Government of Adjara

On July 21, 2018, Tornike Rizhvadze was appointed as the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, a region in southwestern Georgia. His appointment followed his nomination by the Georgian Dream party and subsequent approval by the Supreme Council of Adjara. In this role, he is responsible for leading the executive branch of the autonomous republic's government, overseeing its administrative functions and policy implementation.
