Location
Torksey railway station was situated in the village of Torksey, within the district of West Lindsey, Lincolnshire, England. The station lay on the line originally built by the Great Northern Railway (GNR) and later incorporated into the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) network.

The station was constructed as part of the GNR's main line between Doncaster and Lincoln, providing both passenger and freight services to the surrounding agricultural community. Architecturally, it featured a typical mid‑19th‑century rural GNR design, comprising a two‑platform layout with a modest stone building on the northbound platform and a wooden waiting shelter on the southbound side. A goods yard, equipped with a loading dock and a short siding, facilitated the handling of agricultural produce, coal, and building materials.
Services
During its operational years, Torksey railway station was served by local passenger trains running between Sheffield, Doncaster, and Lincoln. Timetables in the early 20th century indicate that the station handled approximately six to eight passenger trains per day in each direction, with additional services for schoolchildren and market-goers. Freight services were primarily focused on the transport of grain, livestock, and coal.
Closure and Aftermath
Passenger services were withdrawn in November 1959 as part of a broader reduction in rural railway provision following declining usage and competition from road transport. The station continued to handle goods traffic until March 1965, after which the line itself remained open for through traffic until its eventual closure in the 1970s. The station buildings were demolished in the late 1970s, and the site was redeveloped for residential use. The alignment of the former railway line through Torksey has since been incorporated into public footpaths and is part of local heritage walks.
Current Status
No physical remnants of the original station infrastructure remain. The former station site is now occupied by private dwellings and a small community garden. The former railway trackbed is publicly accessible in sections and is used by walkers and cyclists, forming part of the “Lincolnshire Wolds Trail” network.
