Torkild Andersen is a name shared by at least two notable individuals, one a Norwegian footballer and the other a Danish professor of atomic physics.
1. Torkild Henning Andersen (1916–1977) — Norwegian footballer
Torkild Henning Andersen (20 July 1916 – 21 May 1977) was a Norwegian footballer who played as a forward. Born in Fredrikstad, Norway, he played for Lisleby FK and Moss FK in the Norwegian leagues during the late 1930s. He earned five caps for the Norway national football team between 1937 and 1939, scoring three goals. He was also named in Norway's squad for the Group 2 qualification tournament for the 1938 FIFA World Cup.
2. Torkild Andersen (1934–2026) — Danish physicist
Torkild Andersen (19 June 1934 – 23 March 2026) was a Danish professor of atomic physics at Aarhus University. He earned his cand. polyt. degree in 1956 and his Dr. Phil. in 1968. He was employed at Aarhus University, first at the Department of Chemistry from 1959, and from 1971 as a professor at the Institute of Physics (later the Department of Physics and Astronomy).
Andersen was a central figure in building atomic physics research at Aarhus University. He introduced the beam-foil technique for studying the lifetimes of excited states in atoms and later became known for his studies of the structure and dynamics of negative ions. He played an important role in establishing laser spectroscopy at the institute and was instrumental in the construction of the ASTRID storage ring, which enabled a new class of experiments on negative ions. He also contributed to applied research areas including medical physics, particularly radiation therapy. He served as institute director, as a member of the Faculty of Science Council, on the Danish Natural Science Research Council, and on the board of the Carlsberg Foundation.
