Tony Rosato (July 26, 1954 – January 10, 2017) was a Canadian-born actor, comedian, and television personality, best known for his work on the sketch comedy series Second City Television (SCTV) and for appearances on American talk shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
Overview
Born in Naples, Italy, Rosato emigrated with his family to Canada as a child, eventually settling in Toronto. He began his performing career with the Toronto Second City comedy troupe, where his improvisational talents earned him a reputation as a versatile sketch performer. In the early 1980s, he joined the cast of SCTV, contributing to the series’ satirical portrayals of television and pop culture. Rosato later moved to the United States, where he made recurring guest appearances on The Tonight Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and other talk programs. He also acted in film and television projects, including Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993) and voice work for animated series. Rosato returned to Canada in the 1990s, hosting the game show The New Liar's Club and participating in stage productions. He continued to perform in comedy clubs and theater until his death from a heart attack in 2017.
