Overview
Toledo is a city in Tama County, in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is situated in the north-central part of the state, approximately 15 miles (24 km) east of the county seat, Toledo. The city is part of the Waterloo–Cedar Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
The area that became Toledo was first settled in the early 1850s by European‑American pioneers. The community was formally laid out in 1853 and was named after Toledo, Ohio, reflecting the common practice of adopting names from established eastern cities. Toledo was incorporated as a city in 1887.
Geography
Toledo lies at latitude 42.2583° N and longitude 92.6870° W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.62 square miles (6.79 km²), all of which is land. The city is located near the Iowa River and is traversed by Iowa Highway 23 and Iowa Highway 89.

The nearest interstate highway is Interstate 80, located roughly 30 miles to the south. The city is also served by the Toledo Municipal Airport, a small public-use field.
