Ford was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the third round (74th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. His professional playing career spanned from 2004 to 2012. During this period, he competed in several minor leagues and briefly played in the German 2nd Eishockey Bundesliga.
