Titus Ozon (21 June 1927 – 24 June 1996) was a Romanian footballer who played as a forward, and later worked as a football manager. He is noted for his scoring proficiency in the Romanian top division and his contributions to the national team during the early 1950s.
Early life and youth career
Born in Bucharest, Romania, Ozon began playing football in local youth clubs before joining the senior ranks.
Club career
- CFR București / Locomotiva București (1947–1952) – Ozon made his professional debut with CFR București, which later became Locomotiva București. He quickly established himself as a prolific striker.
- CCA / Steaua București (1952–1960) – In 1952, Ozon transferred to the army-affiliated club CCA București, later renamed Steaua București. He helped the team win multiple Romanian Liga I titles (1953, 1956, 1959, 1960) and contributed significantly to cup successes. Over his tenure, he recorded more than 150 league appearances and scored over 70 goals.
- Ozon retired from top‑level playing in 1960.
International career
Between 1952 and 1957, Ozon earned 11 caps for the Romania national team, scoring three goals. He participated in the 1954 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the Balkan Cup.
Managerial career
After retiring as a player, Ozon pursued coaching, serving as manager for several Romanian clubs, including a stint with Steaua București’s junior teams. He was recognized for developing young talent.
Legacy
Titus Ozon is remembered as one of Romania’s prominent post‑war forwards. His goal‑scoring records and contributions to Steaua București’s dominance in the 1950s are frequently cited in Romanian football histories. In 2008, the Romanian Football Federation posthumously honored him for his impact on the sport.
Personal life and death
Ozon lived most of his life in Bucharest. He passed away on 24 June 1996, aged 69.
