Tianqiao District (simplified Chinese: 天桥区; traditional Chinese: 天橋區; pinyin: Tiānqiáo Qū) is one of the ten urban districts of Jinan, the capital of Shandong province, China. Situated in the northern part of Jinan city, it is geographically characterized by its position on the southern bank of the Yellow River.
As a significant transportation hub, Tianqiao District is home to crucial infrastructure, including the Jinan Railway Station, one of the primary rail gateways to the city, and the Jinan Long-distance Bus Terminal. The district's name, "Tianqiao," literally translates to "Heavenly Bridge" or "Overpass," historically reflecting its role as a crossing point, particularly in relation to the Yellow River and its early bridges.
Covering an area of approximately 249.03 square kilometers, Tianqiao District had a population of 830,683 as of the 2020 census. Its economy is diverse, with a focus on logistics, light industry, commerce, and modern service sectors, benefiting greatly from its strategic location and well-developed transport networks.
Beyond its economic and logistical significance, Tianqiao District also contains various public amenities, residential areas, and educational institutions. The Yellow River forms its northern boundary, providing natural landscape features.
