Thomas Woods "Tom" Syme (15 May 1928 – 22 August 2011) was a British ice hockey player. He played as a defenceman for the Dunfermline Vikings and Paisley Pirates during the 1940s and 1950s. He also represented the Great Britain national ice hockey team at the 1948 Winter Olympics and the 1950 Ice Hockey World Championships.
Born in Blairhall, Scotland, Syme stood 6 ft 2 in (188 cm) and weighed 190 lb (86 kg). His playing career spanned from 1946 to 1957. After retiring from ice hockey, he emigrated to Canada before settling in the United States in 1960. He was inducted into the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005.
He was the younger brother of James "Tiny" Syme, who is also a member of the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. Thomas Syme died on 22 August 2011 in Palmdale, California, of kidney failure.
Note: There is also a contemporary researcher named Thomas Syme affiliated with the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), who has published work on insecticide-treated mosquito nets and malaria vector control. This is a different individual from the ice hockey player.
