Theodoros Karras

Theodoros Karras (Greek: Θεόδωρος Καρράς; born December 17, 1968) is a retired Greek professional basketball player. Standing at 2.06 m (6 ft 9 in) tall, he played at the power forward and center positions.

Career

Karras began his professional career in the Greek League, playing for a number of prominent clubs throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He was known for his strong inside play, rebounding ability, and defensive presence.

Club Career

Karras played for several top-tier Greek basketball clubs, including:

  • Panathinaikos: He spent a significant part of his career with Panathinaikos Athens, where he won multiple Greek League championships (1998, 1999) and Greek Cups (1993, 1996). He was part of the Panathinaikos team that reached the EuroLeague Final Four in 1994.
  • Aris Thessaloniki: Karras also had a stint with Aris, another historic Greek club.
  • PAOK Thessaloniki: He played for PAOK, contributing to their success in domestic and European competitions.
  • Peristeri: He played for Peristeri, where he was a key player for the team in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
  • Other clubs included Apollon Patras and Dafni.

National Team Career

Karras was also a member of the senior Greek national basketball team. He represented Greece in several international competitions, including:

  • EuroBasket 1993: Karras participated in the FIBA European Championship held in Germany.
  • FIBA World Championship 1994: He was part of the Greek squad that competed in the World Championship in Canada, where Greece finished in 4th place, their best finish at a World Championship at the time.

Post-Playing Career

After retiring from professional basketball, Karras has remained involved with the sport in various capacities, including coaching roles in youth academies and lower-tier professional clubs.
