Theodore H. Reverman

Theodore Henry Reverman (August 9, 1877 – July 18, 1941) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who served as the fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Superior, Wisconsin.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Reverman received his education at St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana before pursuing advanced theological studies in Europe. He attended the University of Innsbruck in Austria and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he obtained a Doctorate in Canon Law. He was ordained to the priesthood on July 26, 1901, for the Diocese of Louisville.

Following his ordination, Reverman returned to Kentucky, where he served in several pastoral roles, including assignments at St. Edward’s Church and St. Francis of Assisi Church in Louisville. His administrative and legal background led to his eventual appointment to the episcopacy.

On July 2, 1926, Pope Pius XI appointed Reverman as the Bishop of Superior. He was consecrated on September 22, 1926, by Bishop John Floersh. Reverman’s tenure as bishop spanned fifteen years, a period marked significantly by the economic hardships of the Great Depression. During this time, he focused on maintaining the financial stability of the diocese’s parishes and charitable institutions.

Bishop Reverman died in office on July 18, 1941, at the age of 63. He is interred at Calvary Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky. He was succeeded in the Diocese of Superior by William Patrick O'Connor.
