The Operators (band)

The Operators were a Canadian-American indie rock band formed in 2014. The group was primarily a project of musician Dan Boeckner, known for his work with Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs, and Divine Fits.

History and Formation

The band was conceived by Dan Boeckner following the dissolution of Handsome Furs in 2012 and a period of touring with Divine Fits. Boeckner moved to Montreal and began writing new material, which eventually coalesced into The Operators. He aimed for a sound that was more electronic and dance-oriented than his previous projects. The band's lineup included Boeckner on vocals and guitar, Sam Brown (formerly of New Pornographers) on drums, and Alexei Perry (also of Divine Fits) on keyboards and synthesizers.

Musical Style

The Operators' sound blended elements of indie rock, synth-pop, and new wave. Their music featured prominent synthesizers, driving drum machine rhythms, and Boeckner's distinctive vocal delivery, often described as urgent and melodic. Comparisons were frequently drawn to 1980s electronic music and contemporary indie acts.

The Operators released one studio album:
