The Matchmaker (Hebrew: הייתי פעם פצמון, romanized: Haiiti Pazmonai, lit. 'Once I Was a Firecracker') is a 2010 Israeli drama film directed by Avi Nesher. The film is based on the novel When the Heroes Flew by Amir Gutfreund.

Plot Set in Haifa, Israel, during the summer of 1968, the story revolves around Arik (Tuval Shafir), a 16-year-old boy who finds a summer job working for Yankele Bride (Adir Miller), a mysterious and charismatic Holocaust survivor who runs a matchmaking business. As Arik assists Yankele in his unusual trade, he is drawn into a world populated by peculiar characters and learns about love, desire, and the enduring impact of the past. The film explores Arik's coming-of-age journey, his first love, and his growing understanding of the complexities of adult life, all set against the backdrop of a vibrant yet melancholic Haifa still grappling with the echoes of history.
