The Black Minutes (film)

The Black Minutes is a 2015 Canadian documentary film directed by Ariane Brunet. The film explores the 2005 death of Fredy Villanueva, an 18-year-old Honduran immigrant, during a police intervention in Montreal North. It examines the circumstances surrounding Villanueva's death, the subsequent public inquiry, and the social and political tensions within the community. Through interviews with community members, activists, and experts, The Black Minutes aims to shed light on issues of racial profiling, police brutality, and systemic discrimination faced by marginalized youth in Montreal. The film's title references the critical few minutes that led to the fatal shooting.
