Texas State Highway 211

Texas State Highway 211 (SH 211) is a limited‑access toll road located in the north‑central part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Texas. Commonly referred to as the Northwest Parkway, the highway provides a high‑speed connection between Interstate 35W/US 287 in the city of Fort Worth and State Highway 121 near the community of Denton. The route is administered by the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA).

Route description
SH 211 runs in a generally north‑south direction. Its southern terminus is at a interchange with I‑35W/US 287 in Fort Worth. From there, the highway proceeds northward as a four‑lane, controlled‑access roadway, crossing several local roads and passing near residential and commercial developments. The northern terminus is at an interchange with SH 121, which provides access to the Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport and the city of Denton. The total length of the highway is roughly 14 miles (approximately 22 kilometres).

History
The designation SH 211 was applied to the corridor as part of a regional plan to improve mobility in the rapidly growing northwestern suburbs of the metroplex. Construction of the toll road began in the early 2000s, and the highway opened to traffic in phases, with the first segment becoming operational in 2009. Subsequent extensions were completed in the following years, culminating in the full connection between I‑35W and SH 121.

Tolls and operation
SH 211 is operated as an all‑electronic toll facility; cash payments are not accepted. Toll rates vary according to vehicle class and the distance traveled. The NTTA employs an electronic transponder system (NTTA TAG) and a license‑plate‑recognition system for toll collection. Revenues generated from tolls are used for the operation, maintenance, and repayment of bonds issued to finance the highway’s construction.

Significance
The Northwest Parkway provides an alternative north‑south corridor to the heavily traveled I‑35W corridor, helping to alleviate congestion and supporting economic development in the surrounding suburbs. By linking two major highways, SH 211 facilitates regional travel and freight movement within the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
