Tanner Scott

Tanner Scott is an American professional baseball pitcher for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB). Born on July 22, 1994, in Mogadore, Ohio, Scott is a left-handed relief pitcher known for a high-velocity pitching style.

Early Career and Draft Scott attended Mogadore High School and later played college baseball at Howard College in Big Spring, Texas. He was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the sixth round of the 2014 MLB Draft. He spent several years in the Orioles' minor league system, where he was noted for his ability to generate high strikeout rates.

Baltimore Orioles (2017–2021) Scott made his major league debut with the Baltimore Orioles on September 20, 2017. During his five seasons in Baltimore, he functioned primarily as a middle reliever and setup man. While he demonstrated significant power, often recording fastballs in the high 90s, his early career was also marked by challenges with command and walk rates.

Miami Marlins (2022–2024) In April 2022, the Orioles traded Scott to the Miami Marlins. In Miami, Scott's role transitioned toward high-leverage situations, eventually leading to his appointment as the team's closer. The 2023 season marked a significant improvement in his statistical performance, characterized by a decrease in walks and an increase in effective plate appearances. In 2024, Scott was named to his first MLB All-Star team representing the National League.

San Diego Padres (2024–Present) On July 30, 2024, the Miami Marlins traded Scott to the San Diego Padres in a multi-player deal prior to the trade deadline. He was acquired to bolster the Padres' bullpen for the late-season playoff push.

Pitching Style Scott is categorized as a power pitcher. His repertoire primarily consists of a four-seam fastball that consistently reaches 96–99 mph and a sharp slider. His effectiveness is largely attributed to his ability to generate swings-and-misses, particularly against left-handed batters.
