Takashi Okamura (岡村崔, Okamura Takashi; 13 December 1927 – 4 February 2014) was a Japanese photographer who specialised in the photography of art.
Life and career
Okamura was born on 13 December 1927 in Kichijōji, Tokyo. He studied architecture at Nihon University from 1948. He was a proficient skier, representing Japan in Chamonix in 1959, and also worked as a photographer of skiing. In 1960 he became a professional photographer, additionally writing about photography and skiing.
Okamura moved to Rome in 1965 and from that time specialised in photographing buildings, frescos, and works of art, frequently contributing photographs to lavishly produced books. His work is particularly noted for its documentation of the Sistine Chapel frescoes by Michelangelo, the Vatican, and the art and architecture of Florence.
Death
Okamura died from lung cancer on 4 February 2014, at the age of 86.
